Worship
The heart of our worship is the Holy Eucharist, which unites us with Jesus Christ and binds us together as a faith community. Each of our regularly scheduled services, though, has its own unique character. We invite you to try the one which appeals most to you.
Sunday at 8 a.m.
This is a quiet and simple celebration of the Holy Eucharist, done without music. We alternate between using Rite I (traditional language) and Rite II (contemporary language). When you arrive, a greeter will welcome you and give you a bulletin which contains the readings for that day. People follow the service in the Book of Common Prayer, available in the pews. The service takes a little less than an hour. When it is concluded, we invite you to come downstairs for some coffee and refreshments.
Sunday at 10 a.m.
This is our "family Eucharist," which always follows Rite II (contemporary language). This service attracts people of all ages, including families with young children. Music plays an important part in this service. We use both traditional hymns and contemporary songs, and most of the year an adult choir leads the singing. During the school year, we offer Church School classes for children (pre-K through grade five) during the first part of worship. The children then come upstairs midway through the service for a the offertory, sharing of Christ's Peace and Holy Communion. Nursery care is always available for children four and under (though children are always welcome to be with their parents in worship). The ten o'clock Eucharist lasts for about an hour and fifteen minutes, and is followed by a lively time of refreshments downstairs in the parish hall.
Wednesday at 7 a.m.
Each Wednesday of the year, weather permitting and a priest available, a hardy group of souls gather at St. Luke's for a simple celebration of the Eucharist. We typically remember a figure of Christian History from 'Lesser Feasts and Fasts'. A light, informal breakfast follows worship.
