Episcopal Church World Mission Sunday:
 Mi
ssion is Transformational

  Sunday, February 19

[February 9, 2012] The 2012 World Mission Sunday in the Episcopal Church will focus on Mission Is Transformational.

World Mission Sunday, always observed the last Sunday after Epiphany, is February 19. The annual observation was designated to increase awareness of, and participation in, the wider global mission of the Episcopal Church.

"Conversations, presentations, and workshops at the recent Everyone Everywhere 2011 Mission Conference highlighted the transformation that all who are engaged in mission experience," explained the Rev. David Copley, Mission Personnel Officer. "Participating in Gods mission for the world transforms us as individuals, communities and a Church."

World Mission Sunday is an ideal focus for Sunday School lessons, adult education, discussions and forums, prayers of the people and other events in the life of a congregation and diocese.

Copley pointed out that World Mission Sunday is an opportunity to connect local congregations and parishioners with the wider church and its international work.

Resources for World Mission Sunday, available in Spanish and French, are here or here http://www.episcopalchurch.org/page/world-mission-sunday  and include bulletin inserts; suggested sermons; suggested reading; and other info.

The forty days of Lent provide a time to reflect on our Christian faith and prepare ourselves for the celebration and season of Easter. During Lent we are called to slow down and consider our baptismal vows as we move toward the celebration of the resurrection of Christ and season of Easter. It is a time for us to prayerfully consider how we can unite in healing a hurting world.
This year's Lenten Meditations guide us to a deeper understanding of God's call in our lives and provide a particular emphasis on promoting health and fighting disease while preparing ourselves for healing.  Co-authored by a group of leaders from across The Episcopal Church, our writers reflect on their favorite scripture passages and other sources of spiritual wisdom.

Lenten Book & Bible Study

Dear Folks,

For a Lenten Study this year I want to invite you all to share in a journey with Scripture that continues a theme of engaging the Bible in order to be transformed into the image and likeness of God.

Fr. Richard Rohr OFM, of the Center for Action and Contemplation has put together a series of meditations for Lent focusing on ‘coming into one’s own’ in God.

Here is a link to the book and a description of the process

http://tinyurl.com/wondrousencounters

We will meet on Wednesday nights at beginning on Ash Wednesday following the evening service.  Subsequent meetings will be on Wednesday nights at 7 pm in either the Tait or Sickles Rooms.

I would also consider facilitating a Saturday morning group if there is enough interest in doing two groups.

If you’re interested, please let me know ASAP.  If you are ready to commit to the Wednesday group please let me know, we can save on shipping if we order all of the books together.

Peace and Good,
The Rev. Warren Hicks
