St.
Luke's is a parish of the Episcopal Church, which has its roots in the
Church of England. We are part of a worldwide Anglican Communion comprised
of some 70 million Christians.
The Episcopal Church
embraces the best of both the Roman Catholic and Protestant traditions.
Like our Catholic sisters and brothers, we proclaim the historic faith
of the Church, value the Sacraments (especially Baptism and the Holy
Eucharist), and maintain three orders of ordained ministry: bishops,
priests, and deacons. In common with our fellow Protestants, we have
a high regard for Holy Scripture, want each individual to have a living
relationship with the God Jesus reveals, and place special importance
on lay ministry.
Our life at St.
Luke's is centered on the holy Eucharist (Holy Communion), which unites
us with Jesus Christ and empowers us to love God and other people. With
that as our foundation, we offer a wide variety of spiritual, educational,
and social programs, along with numerous opportunities to serve others.
Parishioners come
not only from Worcester, but from many of the surrounding towns as well.
Over the years our parish has grown more diverse, with people of different
backgrounds, political beliefs, and cultures forming a vibrant and loving
community. While some among us are "cradle Episcopalians,"
over half of our parishioners were raised in other religious traditions
(or no tradition at all).
We invite you to
worship with us. Whether you are an Episcopalian looking for a church
home or an unaffiliated seeker looking for God, you are welcome to share
our experience of God's goodness and love.
